Book case builder and a Paper craft crew challenge!

I had some really cool news last week-one of my cards from last month became a top pick in the Paper craft crew! How exciting! Its always an honour to be recognised by a group of VERY talented designers, Like the team on the Paper craft crew.
You can view that post from the Paper craft crew HERE
And my original post HERE
I thought Id have another go at the Paper craft crews challenges this week-especially since it is a sketch challenge. I love them! Here is the sketch:

Be sure to check out the paper craft crew!

I Got Book case builder in the last BBB I received, but hadn't had a chance to ink it up yet. When I got the PPC challenge email this week, I really wanted to use it, and thought using the Book case builder set would be great!

I VERY QUICKLY in my lunch break yesterday, (I work from home) got it out and whipped up this card using the sketch.

Book case builder has some lovely sentiments too!

Book case builder.

Yesterday afternoon I was thinking about the sketch, and looking at my card, which I wasn't 100% happy with, and an idea came to me-

Book case builder meets hearth and home
framelits, and the brick wall embossing folder

Inking the embossing folder before running
it through the big shot adds just a little more definition to the embossing

Tips for making this card:

-All highlighted items can be bought from my store- just click on them!

WHAA-LAH! done! I love this card, especially the simplicity of it (something I'm not overly good at!)  I hope you like it, and want to have a go. It was so much fun to make! I made a quick video of my self making the card. (see the bottom of this post) Unfortunately I had a bit of trouble with iMovie, and the music I wanted to over lay my talking the entire video didn't happen, so I'm sorry for the editing!!!!
I encourage you to go and have a look at the paper craft crew blog, and be inspired by the designers and entries that are displayed there-they do an amazing job at show casing amazing card making techniques!
I hope your weekend is lovely and that you have a creative moment or 2!

Hey Chick, and the Global design project!

Click here to see all the amazing designs this week using this theme!

I was excited by the Global design projects theme this week-In fact, I think I might try and design 2 cards, because there are SO many options for "winged creatures" that are available currently in our combined catalogs-You have dragonflies, butterflies, bugs, and as I have chosen, birds- and quite a few of them too!!

I also wanted to design an up and coming class, so I played around with peek boo cards. I have made them in the past, but a long time ago, and I was looking for a refresher- and found a  a demo-Natalie Lapakko-that had written very clear instructions on the cutting dimensions. I very gratefully used these, and want to give her credit-and if you would like to see them, feel free to check out her excellent tutorial HERE
I struggled at first, to get the layers adhered correctly, but once I had figured that out, though-it was a breeze.
Here is my creation-
The crazy chicken from the "hey chick" sale-a-bration stamp set is SO cute!

As you open the card, the sentiment changes!
The 2 sentiments I chose are "my sweet friend" and....

"Miss you" from the Live, Love, grow stamp set.

Tips for this card-

  • Stamp sets used: Live, Love, grow. / Hey chick!  /Any Occasion (Hey chick and Any occasion stamp sets are FREE SALE-A-BRATION STAMP SETS )
  • Adhere the Dsp on the top layer BEFORE cutting out the Peek-a-boo hole-other wise alignment is a pain!
  • Use the Layering circles to get beautiful circle Peek a boo holes, and the matching scalloped borders included in that set of dies, to create frames.
  • Once your circle has been cut in the front panel, using a pencil, circle the EXACT placement of the subsequent hole, and die cut it out. Once THAT hole has been cut, do the same with the 3rd hole. This ensures perfect placement.
  • Pencil in the 2 circles for sentiment placement. Again, perfect placement is key.
  • Once circling in sentiment holes, allow adequate time to dry if you are using archival ink. I penciled in my circle, stamped my sentiment, and then tried to erase the penciled circle lines, and smudged the ink everywhere, and had to start again. DON'T do what I did!
  • I used Tombo glue to align the top 2 panels but Tear and Tape to the end of the backing card. It made adhering the backing less messy because exact alignment was essential.
  • If you purchase, Live love grow, the Layering circles, tombo adhesive, and tear and tape, you will receive HEY CHICK for FREE during saleabration!

All highlighted products can be clicked on and bought from my store!

As you might have seen over the last few months, I have started to hold online classes-all supplies included, as well as an online, LIVE class tutorial.
This style of card will be a class in the near future-be sure to subscribe to my classes, so that you don't miss it! Due to supplying all class materials (except for stamps and ink) spaces are limited-get in quick!

I hope you enjoyed todays post, and I hope that you manage to find some creative time to unwind-Creative therapy is the best therapy!

  • I used the special reason Thinlit dies (comes bundled with stamps) to cut out the stunning flower out of whisper white card stock, and sponged the card stock (with coordinating inks- Bermuda Bay, Mint Macaron, Sweet sugarplum), to create our flower.
  • I then  die-cut the shadow die of the gorgeous flower from the special reason dies from our specialty Glimmer paper (Oh my goodness, can you believe you can get it FREE?) This die cuts the EXACT SIZE you need to back that die cut flower so as not to waste ANY of that glimmer paper!
  • After adhering to the glimmer paper I used Dimensionals to adhere the flower on to the basic grey card stock underneath-Can you see the great Texture of the basic grey card stock in the picture below? I ran the card stock through the big shot with the Hexagons Dynamic Textured  Impressions Embossing Folder. What Cool Texture-!!!
  • Add ribbon/lace to match the glimmer paper at this stage.
  • I then Layered the remaining card stock.
  • I added a stitched frame circle with one of the sentiments form the Work of art stamp set, and a few rhinestones to complete my card!
  • BONUS TIP*** If you purchase the Special Reason Bundle (and save 10% off the full price!) Plus the Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder you Have spent enough to earn the glimmer paper for FREE!

Crazy crafters Blog hop- with special guest, Georgia Guiguere.

Today we crazy crafters are Hopping again, and todays special guest is Georgia Guiguere.
If you haven't heard of Georgia, make sure you go to her blog, Stampin Georgia, as She is an INSPIRATIONAL woman! She has been fighting Cancer, and finished her radiation treatments in December last year. I KNOW she would love to hear from you and I hope you go to her blog, and comment on her lovely cards!

I have chosen to CASE (copy-and-selectively-edit) this card from Georgia-
Click here to see the blog post tag featured this card!
Its from Quite a while ago-May 2nd 2014 and Georgia used one of my favourite sets from that era ( I made a few you tube tutorials using this set!)-Secret garden. It's huge flowers and simple lines are awesome for colouring-or leaving blank, as in the background of Georgias card.
Heres my cased version-

Spotlight technique-Using Live, Love Grow Stamp set.

I received a BBB last week, and wanted to ink Up my new stamp set, Live, love, grow, and I thought the title described how AMAZING a woman Georgia is. A true inspiration.

Heres how I made My version of Geogria's card:

Spot lighting technique.

The highlighted Portions are items that you can purchase from my store-just click on them!

  • Cut a piece of whisper white card stock 9.5x13.9cm and stamp the Terrarium image from the Live, Love, Grow stamp set, then all the plants within the Terrarium, in archival black ink  in it.
  •  RE-stamp the Terrarium on a scrap piece of Whisper white card stock, again in archival black ink, but stamp the plants in colour (I stamped the plants in -Pear Pizzaz, -full strength for the out lines, and stamped off for the inside colour. I touched one of the succulents leaves with Rich Razzelberry marker after stamping, to get that succulent leaf feel.)
  • TOP TIP-I tried very hard to keep the placement as close as possible to the original. You could use a stamp-a-majig if you had one.  (I have one, but cant find the acetate piece!!! I would have used it though- I would have made things much easier.)
  • To create the "spotlights" I Used the Stitched Shape Framelits. I die cut out 2 squares from the coloured version of the Terrarium-as in Georgias Card.
  • In rich Razzelberry card stock I cut 2 squares using the Square Layering framelits to Matt the stitched shape frames.
  • I used Tombo glue to adhere the coloured versions to the rich razzelberry layered scalloped squares. I popped some Dimentionals on the back in readiness for my finished card.
  • On my black and white version of the Terrarium, I then stamped my sentiment, and cut a Rich Razzelberry Matt for the entire whisper white card stock.
  • While Stamping my sentiment, I accidentally left a light smear of Black ink (from my fingers I think) on My whisper white piece, (grrrrr) so I had the idea, instead of starting again, to Mask the terrarium and smudge some Sahara Sand ink on the whisper white background to hide my mistake. I wanted to keep the sentiment crisp and white though, so I now cut the thin strip where the sentiment lay, out. I then layered this strip with a thin strip of Rich Razzelberry card stock.
  • To create the "smudge" in the background, I smoosched (very technical term) my Sahara Sand ink pad onto a zip lock bag, and spritzed it with water. I re stamped the terrarium on thin writing paper, and cut it out to create a mask of the image. I placed the mask over my Terrarium and.... with my heart full of hope that I didn't stuff it up, I placed the Zip Lock bag of the top, and once again Smoosched it down- being careful to not move the masked image.  Success! It wasn't ruined! I now had cool background texture! (phew.)
  • To finish off my card, I Used Tombo glue to adhere the whisper white (Terrarium) Matt to the Rich Razzelberry card stock matt (attaching that thin strip that I cut off the bottom too) then I added my Coloured Terrarium Squares, (which already had Dimensionals on them) and added my sentiment layer. I REALLY wanted that to POP so I Used the higher Layering Foam Strips to create slightly Higher dimension.
  •  To make the plants glisten, I used the Fine tipped glue pen, and squeezed droplets of glue out over the coloured version of the plants. Then to mimic the butterfly in Georgias card which she added for a little bit of added texture, I stapled  Blackberry bliss Ribbon (its retired, but I think this ribbon would look great!) To the edge of my cardstock.  then Tombo glued the entire layer to my base of Whisper white thick card stock Wha-Lah!
Layers, Layers, Layers! (to fix a stuff up!!)

Fine tipped glue pen shininess!

Live Love Grow Version of Georgias Card.

Shooting star, and global design project sketch challenge

Ever had a week that just went too fast for you to be able to get everything that you want ed accomplished? That was this week for me. When the Global design project post landed in my in box on Monday night, I saw the sketch and fell in love- I knew Would LOVE the challenge. But all week I have had a mountain of things to do, and just haven't gotten to it... but it has been in the back of my mind-until this morning, when I had an hour I could play with the sketch. Last week I had a delivery and the Shooting start stamp set was in my BBB. (BIG BROWN BOX) and the shooting star stamp set and spinner card dies were in there.... This ISN'T a spinner card-but a SPRINGER card!! l
Here is the Sketch-
Click here to see the designers inspiration,
and other amazing entries!

Heres my entry-

Shooting star springer card,
-with a home made sentiment form the Labeler alphabet, stamp set
and badge background from Badges and Banners stamp set.

Colours- Soft suede, crumb cake and Sahara sand
The Card came together fairly easily-I didn't have much time!-Heres how I did it-

  • Stamped the Bee in archival black ink and coloured it in with water colour pencils-I then die cut the bee using the matching Framelits.
  • I then created the tag, so I cut a strip of Whisper white 1.5" wide, and punched the bottom with the Flag banner punch.
  • I needed the heart element on the sketch, so used the Badge from Banners and Badges stamp set, and punched it out using the matching punch.
  • I didn't want to just put it on the card with dimensionals (which would have looked great too) I wanted an interactive card, so I made a hand made springer and added that to the back of my Bee, and then added that to my aBadge. easy! (If you are interested, I'd be happy to show you how I made my springer!) If you would like to see the springer in action - visit my Facebook page HERE (you might have to scroll to todays date!)
  • I didn't want to leave the background blank (I just cant!!) so I used the hexagon embossing folder to create texture. I LOVE this Embossing folder!!
  • I really wanted a pun-ny sentiment-and don't really own any, so I created my own using the Alphabet labeler stamp set. Its fantastic-(One of my biggest fears is that I'll lose some pieces-I'm paranoid about them!!!!!!! )
  • next all I did was Matt it with a piece of whisper white, and pop it on a crumb cake card!
Home made "springer" = huge dimension!

I hope you enjoyed todays post- Have creative day peoples- Ive got to fly, a client is coming in 15 mins!!

Weather together with Bear hugs- Get well soon!

If you could only see my craft room! It looks like a bomb has hit it!!

I REALLY wanted to be a part of the amazing international highlights Kylie was having on her Crafty Kylie web page, so set my alarm to go very early this morning...
Fortunately I KNEW what I was going to make.
Ever since getting Weather Together stamp set, I have wanted to make this card. I wanted to see if the teaming of the bear character in Bear hugs and the umbrella in Weather Together went together. I Love Bear hugs. I've mentioned before I love the "dress up" quality of the stamp set..... It must be a throw back to my childhood when I remember having paper dolls and cutting out the outfits for them.... Did anyone else do that?
Bear hiding from the storm....
I love giving get well cards. When you are sick, or laid up, and in pain, its wonderful knowing people care.
Last year I had to have emergency surgery, after it I wasn't able to do very much for a whole month.  the surgery was in my abdomen, and because of this I wasn't allowed to even hang washing. My gorgeous sister came every day to help out. She was just wonderful. I so appreciated her concern.
So now if someone in my circle is unwell, even for a short time, I try to give a little card, and help out if I can. We have to look after one another don't we?

"wishing you brighter days"sentiment-
How lovely would it be to get this when you are sick?
Over On Kylie Bertucci's Blog we are being highlighted internationally, and you are able to VOTE for my project.-if you like it!-The top ten winners will get to be part of an international blog hop, so please vote! If you can, try and pop over to Kylie's blog-the other entries are AMAZING! You can do that here- below-click the "Vote now" button and you will be taken straight to her blog. Our theme for this highlight was GET WELL SOON- what a wonderful way to cheer someone up when they are feeling down!

The little flower is a sneaky addition

I Had THE most gorgeous message from a customer last week-It was Feed back from this months slider class.
It inspired my card this morning.

Hi Petra

I hope you're having a lovely day.

The class was great. I know you've mentioned that this was only the second time you've done it live, but honestly I think you're a natural. You're very clear and easy to follow. I think you're doing an amazing job.

The written tutorial is fabulous and handy to have and easy to follow.

I'd love to see different stamping techniques and pop up cards. I love to learn how to make cards look antique/distress.

Oh I finally purchased Baby Bear (so in love with that stamp) and would love to know how to use it.
I understand using a particular stamp isn't feasible as not everyone will have it or want it, so I'd most likely need to look on YouTube lol

Shadow stamping (not sure if that's the official name of the technique) who'd be great too and water colour. I've noticed a lot of the stamps are designed more for water colour.

To be honest I'm enjoying the classes ....
I don't know if you realise, but you're the one who got me hooked on card making. Rebecca asked me if I wanted to join an online class and I had no idea what it was about. I'd never done card making before I joined your group and here I am nearly 3 years later 😊 I loved it.

Keep doing what you're doing, you're amazing xx

Getting Feed back like this is the reason I do online classes. The thing I hear most often when I show people what I do is, "I'm not creative at all-I could never do that."
It's NO EXAGGERATION when I say,  I truly believe, that ANYONE can do this
Are you hesitant to have a go, because you think you "aren't creative"?
I know you can, And I'm TOTALLY happy to show you how!
