For those of you that don't know, as a Stampin Up demonstrator, I am a part of a team called the Crazy Crafters. We have some AMAZINGLY talented ladies in our team, artists really. I am so fortunate to be part of such an amazing team- so good in fact that we were recognised last year as the Best team in Australia!
But I digress...... as I was saying, the girls are so talented I was super nervous when trying to design my project- I find masculine cards THE hardest of all-
What are little boys made of?
Snips and snails, and puppy dogs tails
That's what little boys are made of!
What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice and all things nice
That's what little girls are made of!
Masculine cards present numerous Challenges
1- Colour- I cant use my fall back colours...
2- My normal features of "bling" and numerous types of flowers aren't going to work
3- My normal "clean cut" style doesn't seem appropriate....
BUT- Stampin UP to the rescue!
1- Colour? Stampin ups "Colour Coach" made picking colours SO easy!!!
2- Features- "bling" in the form of diamantes might not be appropriate, but Stampin Ups metal mini brads add some shine, as does Stampin Up crystal effects. I enjoyed making the stamp set "clock works" the real hero!
3- Making Masculine cards gives us an opportunity to "grunge" it up- Stampin Up has a distressing tool that works a treat!
Heres what I came up with.....
This shot is actually upside down, I was trying to get the shine from the Crystal effects on the clock face.... If only I had thought to turn the card........ lol
It also have a cute metal mini brad in the middle of the clock face for extra shine.
I chose the window frames collection of framelits because it reminded me of a grandfather clock face...... AND, honestly, I just love them..... lol
I used the "colour coach" and found the combination of chocolate chip (neutrals range), soft sky, and wild wasabi (subtles range) Its not a combo I would have normally used, but I LOVE them together! I think the soft sky adds to the vintagey feel..... the distressed cardstock complete that grungy look!
Stampin Ups stamp set- "clock works" gave a fantastic grungy look. One of the girls in my online class said it gave a real "steampunk" vibe.... I looked it up because I had no idea what she meant...
this is the official description-
Steampunk is modern technology—iPads, computers, robotics, air travel—powered by steam and set in the 1800’s.
But the pictures on the site, provided a much better connection- sprockets, cogs and various Watch parts.... Modern and vintage mixed, providing a really cool feel... I hope that this card has that feel, Old and new all mixed......
I think the linen thread adds great texture to the card, as well as adding to the "old" feel
I love the Sentiment, and I think the font really adds that cool "old is new" feel... It comes from the Hostess set, "morning meadow"
